NEWS - International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Date: 11 February 2021
“To rise to the challenges of the 21st century, we need to harness our full potential. That requires dismantling gender stereotypes. On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, let’s pledge to end the gender imbalance in science” – Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General.
Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are steering girls and women away from science related fields, with only 35% of STEM students being women in higher education.*
Our laboratory technician, Martyna, said:
“For me, celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science is so important to inspire more young women, just as my colleagues inspired me. I’m proud to be able to share my STEM experience so far and demonstrate how being brave and taking on new challenges gives me the opportunity to learn every single day.”
Avon Protection remain committed to providing equal opportunities to all, regardless of gender and in 2020, we launched Balance@Avon, a women's community network within the business. This initiative aims to increase the number of women in senior leadership roles and help ensure that all women at Avon Protection thrive.
